Digital Teaching and Learning @GESS
At the German European School Singapore, we believe that technology is a core literacy. Educational technology supports and enhances teaching and learning across our community. To this end, we are constantly evolving and building a purposeful landscape for educational technology that is "future ready" and sustainable.
When technology is treated as a core competence for teachers and students, then all aspects of teaching and learning through technology can be connected and mapped to the curriculum. To aid this curriculum mapping process, we have adopted the ISTE Standards for technology integration as well as the Common Sense Media program for digital citizenship, to guide and document all aspects of educational technology use. The digital citizenship program teaches our students to practice safety, good judgement and to protect the rights of themselves and others at all times. Teaching, learning and professional growth are all guided and developed by the ISTE Standards for Students, Teachers, and Educational Technology Coaches.
Our dedicated educational technology coaches work to seamlessly integrate technology into the classrooms along with supporting our entire community. They introduce engaging tools that enrich and build upon the curriculum, along with fostering our students' innate creativity and potential. Our learning services are meant to enable all members of our school community to become critical thinkers, knowledge constructors and effective communicators.
GESS employs iPads from the kindergarten up to Grades 4 and 5 with additional access to laptops for the older grades. From Grade Six onwards, the students move onto using laptops on a 1:1 basis in a "bring your own device" (BYOD) program.
Here are some examples of digital learning and creativity here at our school.
