Dear GESS Community, it has been a while since we last reached out to all of you as we think it is best to keep communications, the need for which is plenty at the moment due to the COVID-19 situation, centralized and not add unnecessarily to the many emails you are currently receiving.
Today though, we would like to give you an update about our Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), which under normal circumstances would be held in spring. Unfortunately, due to the social distancing measures by the Singapore Government which will stay in place even in Phase II of the Singapore Reopening Plan, we will not be able to hold an EGM. The EGM serves several purposes, with the main one being the approval of the budget for the next academic year. Unfortunately, our Constitution did not foresee a situation like the one we are currently in and does not allow for digital voting and the possibility of a virtual meeting. We will rectify this at the next Constitutional Review. Thankfully though, the Constitution does also not require us to hold an EGM and the budget for AY20/21 can be approved at the AGM in November 2020
