Since most of our incoming Grade 6 parents will using the summer break to purchase and set-up the devices for their children we have received some questions on how the school is supporting internet safety of their children at home.
We are running a laptop orientation at the start of Grade 6 when the kids will not only learn about essential technology skills but in particular about digital citizenship. Part of this program is to understand the dangers and opportunities of the world wide web.
Of course, parents are still encouraged to control the devices or their children. This can be done effectively via a Microsoft family account where internet filters and screen time can be managed for devices. You can set-up the family account via the following website: https://bit.ly/1UjO1aO. Here is a detailed tutorial for setting up the account: https://youtu.be/nGZhQJBGVy8. This would not conflict with any school related settings as the school only manages the internet access at school via our own web filters that protect the students from inappropriate websites.
