Junior School Campus

Our whole School Community loves the Junior School Campus because it is spacious and green with a nature park right next door. With approximately 700 students in total, the Junior School Campus is big enough to make exploring fun, without getting lost.

The Junior School Campus of GESS is used by the Primary School of the German Section and the European Section as well as the Parent-Child-Groups and Pre-Primary of our Pre-School. Their Kindergarten department, however, is located on the Main Campus.

Front Desk

At the front desk, you will be welcomed by our bi-lingual receptionists (German and English) who are ready to offer you assistance and advice, whenever needed.

The Habitat building accomodates the Parent-Child-Groups, the Toddlers as well as the Pre-Primary students. All classrooms are placed around a large and bright, covered patio which offers ample space for activities of all kinds.

All 33 class rooms are bright and air-conditioned. They are connected to our highspeed network with internet access for all students and are equipped with beamer and audiovisual devices.

Music rooms

In addition to our group music rooms, GESS has several practice rooms dedicated to our Vocal and Instrumental Programme that are equipped with various and often unusual instruments, such as harp and ukulele.

Each campus has a modern library with a total of 75,000 volumes. You have access to our Online Resources with Databases in German and English as well as e-books. We offer different media suitable for all age groups ranging from fiction, non-fiction books and school textbooks. Our trained librarians and assistants encourage reading all levels, helping students to find books they really enjoy. Parents and members of the German community can become members of our library, too.

Sport Facilities

The Junior School Campus has an open space sports hall which is also used for theater performances and school assemblies. The adjoining junior pool has seen many competitions over the years.

The Junior School Campus offers our students a very spacious open space and greens to play and run around. Furthermore, there are covered and shaded playing and recreation areas.

Hoe Bros, who provides canteen services to our school, have many years of experience in international schools in Singapore and offer students freshly prepared, balanced hot or cold meals daily as well as snacks and drinks. Lunch times are regulated to avoid long queues.

Hoe Bros. have in place nutritional information and ingredients lists for all menu items being served at GESS. Parents of children with allergies can now make informed decisions as to what their children should eat.

Menus will be published on the school’s website each month. All students may use their ID cards for payment by taking it to the cashier to ‘top up’. Cash payment is also accepted. The menu for students in Pre-School is still included in their school fees.

School Shop

The school shop carries a small selection of stationary and other items for student's every day needs.

You may also purchase school uniform, books and many more items at the well-stocked school shop at the Main Campus.

First Aid

The Junior School Campus has a First Aid room staffed by First Aid Officers with high level of qualification, who are available to provide first aid, and to help students, who have minor accidents or fall ill while at school.

First Aid Officers are always on duty during school hours, including CCA times, as well as special events, such as sports tournaments.

Please feel free to contact the First Aid Department via firstaid@gess.sg for further questions.

IB Curriculum

The English speaking European Section of GESS is a fully fledged International Baccalaureate World School, and one of the few in the world who are authorised to deliver the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (IBDP).

Since opening in 2005, the European Section has grown rapidly to become a school with a reputation for quality education with a strong community feel. We now have over 600 students. The vast majority of our students are European passport holders, for whom GESS represents a vital connection with home. Students are thus provided with a safe, friendly and familiar environment in which they are challenged to thrive as they grow into independent and responsible global citizens.

Our academic and pastoral programmes are designed to support this demographic and ultimately to prepare our students for returning to Europe or for entry into European universities. To this end we endeavor to support mother tongue language acquisition so that our students do not lose this vital connection with their home culture. Fortunately, given the high entry requirements into European schools and colleges, this also means that our students are especially well prepared for study all over the world, particularly North America, the UK and Australia.

The Pre-School department provides education from 18 month to 6 years in either English or German. Children are placed in groups according to their age.

German Curriculum

Since the school was founded in 1971, the school has evolved into a school with two sections. As an accredited “Excellent German School Abroad”, the German Section of the German European School Singapore (GESS) offers all major German school leaving certificates. The European Section is an authorized IB World School offering education in English across all three IB programmes.

The German Section supports the students to develop their German roots. We give them wings for the linguistic demands of a globalized world through our differentiated English programme from grade 1 onwards. In secondary school some subjects are taught in English. Our students are benefitting from numerous bonding activities and have additional space to enjoy the internationality of the school.

Our Pre-School department provides education from 18 month to 6 years in either English or German. Children are placed in groups according to their age.
